Jim focuses on real estate and closely-held businesses. Real estate development, whether commercial or residential, can be a very complicated process, involving negotiations with municipalities, lenders, investors, and buyers. Real estate development also involves recognition and application of many levels of government regulation, such as federal and state environmental protection programs and local controls such as zoning and other land use restrictions. Jim’s experience with commercial and residential development in Madison and surrounding communities gives him the background to guide clients through this complicated process.
Jim also advises clients on the acquisition, formation, sale and organization of the business and on day-to-day operations of corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, and sole proprietorships. Jim has represented landlords, tenants, sellers, and buyers in numerous types of real estate transactions.
A 1986 summa cum laude graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, Jim majored in botany. He earned a law degree, with honors, from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1989. He was elected to Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Eta Sigma honorary societies. He is a member of the Wisconsin, Dane County, and Western District of Wisconsin Bar Associations.
Jim has been selected for inclusion in “Wisconsin Super Lawyers” by Wisconsin Law and Politics.
