Tom has practiced law since 1976 and has guided clients, especially financial institutions, non-profit organizations, high technology manufacturers, and health care providers, through all phases of the business process.
He has been selected for inclusion in “Wisconsin Super Lawyers” by Wisconsin Law & Politics and as one of Madison’s Best Lawyers by Madison Magazine.
Tom’s work with business clients ranges from complex business transactions to day-to-day legal advice. On the complex side, he works in acquisitions, financings, venture capital transactions, initial organizations of businesses, real estate leasing and financing, and large institutional investments. He also provides assistance with contracts, employment matters, international transactions, and regulatory compliance. He practices before administrative agencies, especially tax and financing authorities. Among Tom’s clients are banks, foundations, institutional investors, governmental entities, and closely-held businesses.
A physics undergraduate student at Dartmouth College and former shipboard engineer, Tom is familiar with technical and scientific concepts and information. In 1976, Tom earned his law degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Wisconsin Law Review. Tom has been a lecturer at the UW Law School, is a member of the Wisconsin Rustic Roads Board and is a director/active participant in Madison Development Corporation, Madison Committee on Foreign Relations, Madison Curling Club, Wisconsin Innovation Network, Bethel Lutheran Church, and other organizations
